Arrested for abduction and murder of 2 minors, the 23-yr-old was trying to flee
The van driver who was recently arrested for kidnapping, torture and murder of two school children in Coimbatore was shot dead in an alleged police encounter on Tuesday morning. Two policemen were also injured in the encounter.
On the way, Mohanakrishnan – the school van driver who was the main accused in the case – snatched the revolver of police sub-inspector Jyothi and opened fire, injuring Jyothi and his colleague Muthumlai. Police inspector Annadurai, who was also travelling in the police vehicle, and Muthumalai opened retaliatory fire that critically injured Mohanakrishnan, who later died at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The two injured policemen were also hospitalised, and were out of danger, police added. “Near Podanur, Mohanakrishnan grabbed Jyothi's revolver and demanded the van to be taken towards Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. When the cops resisted, Mohan opened fire. Interestingly, Mohan was not handcuffed at the time of the incident. The twin murder of Muskan and her brother, children of textile merchant Ranjit Kumar Jain origin from Deuri,Pali Marwad,Rajasthan , had rocked Tamil Nadu. Muskan and Hrithik were abducted on October 28 near their house at Town Hall area in Coimbatore. While the body of Muskan was fished out from Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) canal near a dam site about 77 km away from Coimbatore, Hrithik’s remains were found the next day from a lake in Tirupur district. |
